Campus Life
A learning community
Meeting students who are studying different subjects and who are at different stages of their studies is an important enriching aspect of university life: students are encouraged to spend time together socially, for study, for mealtimes and for worship. Learning is a communal activity and all students are strongly encouraged to play their part in fostering a peaceful and harmonious community.
All who study, teach and work for The Episcopal University are members of the University community and are to be valued and respected for their commitment to the vision and mission of the University. This includes the support staff: the guards, cooks and cleaners are vital members of the community without whom the community would not be able to function.
A worshipping
community
TEU is a Christian university which welcomes students of all faiths and none. Its Christian identity is manifested through its Christian values and ethos, and through its vibrant life of prayer and worship in which all staff and students are invited participate.
At the Bishop Gwynne Campus in Juba students and staff gather for
- daily morning worship which will follow the Episcopal Church of South Sudan Anglican liturgy for Morning Prayer and Holy Communion, as appropriate.
- community worship twice a week: this is a more informal time of worship during a time of day when all students are able to join in, if they wish.
Everyone in the University community is welcome and encouraged to participate in these communal times of Christian worship. It is a time for praising and giving thanks to God, for confessing our shortcomings, and for bringing our needs and concerns to God in prayer.
Students are encouraged to volunteer to join the student choir, lead prayers and read Scripture at these times of worship.
The worship life of TEU communities in each campus will be led and organized by the Chaplain.
A caring community
TEU seeks to be a place where every student and staff member is valued, respected and supported.
The Chaplain will also be available to meet with individual students whenever they have pastoral concerns.
The Health and Wellbeing Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of students and is available to hear about any health or wellbeing concerns.
Mealtimes are an important time for student and staff social interaction. Lunch is available at the canteen. Residential students are provided with morning tea, lunch and an evening meal.
